Would that help the speedo read more accurate?

I think it would definately be better than stock, and the accuracy would be off by so little you'd probably not notice, but technically, it won't make it perfect.
    This is why...that statement

quote:
1% increments from 10% to 255%.

It still uses a ratio. The further out you go, or faster rather, the more that ratio is off. But again, its better than stock, so the difference You and I would probably never notice as far as accuracy.

quote:
Originally posted by Fierdon:

GM states the govenor is at 115 MPH.
Your speedometer may say you are going faster than 115, but that doesn't mean you are going faster than 115. The ratio and accuracy of the stock speedometer is probably just off.

I remember it was in a Car&Driver issue - April 2002, here is the link I found and a quote.

Speedometer Scandal by Car and Driver, April 2002

quote:
So we sought out the rule book to find out just how much accuracy is mandated. In the U.S., manufacturers voluntarily follow the standard set by the Society of Automotive Engineers, J1226, which is pretty lax. To begin with, manufacturers are afforded the latitude to aim for within plus-or-minus two percent of absolute accuracy or to introduce bias to read high on a sliding scale of from minus-one to plus-three percent at low speeds to zero to plus-four percent above 55 mph. And those percentages are not of actual speed but rather a percentage of the total speed range indicated on the dial. So the four-percent allowable range on an 85-mph speedometer is 3.4 mph, and the acceptable range on a 150-mph speedometer is 6.0 mph.

      So to settle all claims.

Even if you are running stock tires and stock gears. GM was allowed for the speedometer to be off by 5 MPH at anything above 55 MPH (at top speed) (on a ratio of a scale from 0 to 125 MPH)

So if your speedometer is reading 120 MPH you are really only going 115 MPH.

Its not really a big deal. Your speedometer is still 96% accurate at near top-speed.

Becomes more of a factor is Z28's and Corvette's.
If they have a speedo that goes to 160 MPH. Then with the needle pegged at 160, they are really going 153.6.

Or at 200 MPH, its really 192. That's still 122 MPH faster than the legal limit, so who cares if its off a little.

When I ran the math I came up with 94 MPH with 3.23 gears, 1.41:1 third gear, and 5,500 RPM. So it's fessible.

But as far as 4th gear and top speed, yeah possible. You'll be at 4,750 RPM. But I wouldn't call an additional 750 RPM "Plenty"

Well my speedometer must be pretty accurate right now, because before I got my computer my car would stop pulling at like 113mph... so if the governor is set to 115 then it is pretty accurate hehe.

Hey blig, you think I'd be better off getting the thing I posted to correct for speed when I put in 3.73s or get the GPS thing?
That thing is only 100 bucks which is why I liked it, it's a cheap fix for the speeometer

3.8 is 118. Your speedo is off if you're seeing 115.

with the v6,5 speed your can go as fast as u will ever go in 4th, 5th is practly an overdrive. that is factory setup. 5th has no pull and really dosent matter besides fuel econmy and to level off rpms for stress on the engine

110 in third with my auto, in 4th I tached out around 5600, for a little, and my GPS cut-out once I got her up to about 130...so I dunno what exact top speed is...and my GPS is pretty accurate when my speedo says 70 my GPS says 70.1-70.5....so its pretty accurate ;)

                                What tires are those?

Maybe that's a dealer-installed part, Pontiac always said it came with the Goodyear Eagle GA's, which are T-rated: 118 mph. The V8's come with Goodyear Eagle GS-C or F1, both of which are Z-rated. Never heard of an F-Body coming with V-rated before.
