• Wow, I have a lot of leaks at 32,000 miles! *Please Read*

I just recently took my car to a local race shop (Next Level Performance) to have them put it on a lift so we could look for this oil leak I’ve been having for a while now. Well, there is oil all over the top/back of my motor coming from the manifold, oil all over the y-pipe, oil all over my oil pan, and all around the back/bottom of the motor. The guy at NLP thinks it’s either the manifold leaking, and/or the Rear Main Seal. Oh, and my power steering is leaking a lot too. NLP is the best speed shop for f-bodies and corvettes in Orlando, but they don’t work on V6’s! Just for fun I asked a few dealerships around town for an estimate just to fix the rear main seal, and they all wanted over $1000-$1200, plus parts!

    What's your opinion? Thanks!

don't work on 6's!!?? it's still a 'maro, and they're probably losing out on a lot of business.

average around $80-$100/hr for most pro mechanics and that's about 10-12 hours of labor? hmmm...

steam clean the engine bay. i did mine and looks great, and a day later or so look for where the leaks are actually coming from. for cars with distributors make sure and cover those.

rear main seals are a ***** to replace.

The price sounds pretty cheap (for around here anyways)

Do not steam clean, or high pressure wash! To clean you use a degreaser on a cool engine, then wash off with a regular water hose, with normal pressure.

Jsut a thought, thought of switching back to a normal non-synthetic oil?

synthetic oil is kind of thin, and would leak more then a thicker oil. I doubt it will stop your oil leaks but its worth a try imo...

I purchased my 2000 firebird about 1 1/2 years ago and i got the extended warranty for it. In that time i have had my power steering pump, rear main seal, cataletic converter and 2 count them 2 trannys replaced and my Edelbroc torque arm installed all for $100 !! The moral of the story is, Always buy the Extended Warranty !
