  • Oil temp gauge Install please help

    Hey I have my two autometer gauges (oil temp and water temp) all hooked up andf the water temp sender is plugged into the spot where the stock sender for the gauge cluster was. The oil temp sender is not in because I do not know where to put it without losing any stock sending units. I actually have 2 questions:

    1. Where can I put the oil temp sending unit? (because I do not want to drill into the pan)

    2. How can I hook up my factory water temp gauge to the new sender so the ses light will go off?

    Please help a fellow v6er out. Thanks guys

    You're driving around with the Coolant Temp sensor unplugged? Not exactly a good thing to do. I'm not sure the PCM will switch into closed loop if it doesn't have any engine temp data.

    Usually what you do is to T off the sensor into your sending unit.

      I am driving around with the coolant temp sender unplugged but I have my water temp gauge working so I can see if it gets too hot. but I'm not really sure what you mean. Can you explain what you mean by T off the sensor into the sending unit? I know one wire is a ground but thats about it lol

        This is what I did on my 92 Camaro. Get a brass T that you screw into the stock location. Take a sender with you to a hardware or auto parts store to match the thread pattern. They should be the same for all 3 connections. This T will have two holes in it (female)and one male. (threaded part). Screw the threaded part into the origional sender hole. (use teflon tape on the connections). Screw one sender into one female fitting, and the other sender into the other female fitting. Both the computer will be happy and both gauges will have a sender connected to it. (one sender for the factory gauge and the other sender for the one you bought). It will work in both locations, as long as the senders have room, so they are not hitting anything, and thread in all the way. There is also a brass L with a male on the bottom a female on the side and a female at the top. This fitting might work better on some applications.(Location wise so the senders are not in the way of anything). Either way both oil and both temperature gauges will work, and the computer won't freak out...wait I think I said that already.....Jessica:)
        Oh by the way, on my 92, the car will not run with the oil sender disconnected. It's a safety feature so you don't drive around with no oil in the motor.
