Places like Autozone will usually accept your used motor oil. I've also taken used oil to the same shops that change your oil for you... they will usually let you dump it in one of their catch pans.

However, never, never, NEVER dump oil down the drain.

Well, before I knew much better, here's a few uses that my dad and I found for used oil since we've pretty much always changed our own. That I know of, most people back in the day used to just dump it on the ground, it came from the ground why not return it there.

You can pour it around wood fence posts, protects the wood from insects and kills the grass around them so it makes it easier to mow.
Pour it along fences so that grass doesn't grow up in them.
Pour it on fire ant beds and wait a little while and then light it, also have used gas a few times. Looks rather weird just having small circles of dirt burning, like some kinda of weird ritual. It actually kills some of the ants but ant killer is much more effective.
If you have a vehicle that burns oil bad, just dump it in there, don't buy the good stuff, just going to burn up anyways.

Now I try to keep my dad from doing these since we get our water from a well. He's not always the brightest, like this one time he kept trying to suck on the hose to siphon some bad gas out of the 3 wheeler, I showed him the easy way. Just incase it's ever needed, all you do is fill up the hose with any liquid, keep your hand over one end(air tight) and stick the other end in the tank. Make sure more of the hose is out of the tank than in and the end outside is lower than the bottom of the tank. Let go and watch it all siphon out.

I dont know if thats a good idea. I am pretty sure you are not supposed to dump oil into the ground for any reason.

Yeah, I'm sure now they even have laws like that in Texas and you definately shouldn't do it if your drinking water comes from a well in the area.

Another good 'mod' is to pick up an oil drain plug screw that's got a magnetic tip. I think it was about $3 from the dealer. It's good to have because if you start getting metal shavings in your oil, this will pick some up and let you know somethings wrong. Not really necessary for a new car, but something good to have later on. I think the newer models come with the magnetic tip, but my 97' didn't.

simple, if you cant drink it or eat it, DONT THROW IT DOWN THE DRAIN OR IN THE GROUND!

I was hoping that ya'll would pick up the sarcasim in there but I guess it was just a bit over your heads. Everybody here knows what a septic system is right?

Anyways, anybody try out the Fram replacement Drain plug thing? It replaces your drain plug and lets a host attach to it which then lets oil pass through the plug, into hose and where ever you want that to point for easy oil draining. It seems like it would be a pretty cool thing to speed up oil change if it doesn't leak and if they didn't want way too much for it.

Nice job on the oil change site.
What about the "CHANGE OIL" light?
You have to hold the trip reset button for a few seconds untill it clears, but it also resets the trip odometer!
                      What's up with that?

Looks good but the wheel chocks are backwards.

Also, like mentioned by someone else before, an AC Delco PF-52 filter (deeper version of PF-47) is a cool alternate. If you do this add an extra 1/4 qt. of oil.
