  • GT or VS cam

Ive been reading through past posts on cam selection and havent found any decisive conclusions about pros or cons of any of the cams out there. I was thinking about getting the Comp Cam GT cam. ZZPerformance claims no SES light, but after reading posts it sounds like most of the people using it do get a code. Im now leaning toward the VS cam and cant find anyone that has it.

    Specs :

    206/216 .512/.507 lift 115LS/113IC

will probably be the last of my mods unless I *perhaps* get a small shot of nitrous somewhere down the road. complimenting mods will include Headers, exhaust, gears and intake. I want something with more low end with power in the 1000-4000 rpm range that isnt too radical and wont set an ses light.

    Any thoughts?

I have the VS cam, check out my site, link in the sig. Yes it does throw an ses light mostly for random misfire and system to lean bank 1 and 2. I love it though I just keep my code scanner with me at all times.

I asked something like this a while back and was told the VS is a forced induction cam.....

why does it set a lean condition code?

zzp claims it doesnt set the ses, but they say that about the gt cam as well. anyone put the gt cam in and get the ses light?

if it happens that both set it off, i think I'll go with the VS and remove the SES light.... I think ive seen a write-up on that somewhere.

The SES light on the GT cam, is caused by false knock, all you have to do is desensitize your knock sensors with a resistor. Do a search in the Advanced tech forum, or check out Seppo's site he has all of this information detailed there.

Hmmm.... sounds like its a hit or miss thing then.

ZZP shows more potential gain with the VS cam, but that seems to be when combined with nitrous or SC. Since I'm not going radical with mods im guessing I'll probably see quite simialar improvement with either one. Am I correct that with the GT's 112LS I will see a slightly lower power band than the 115LS of the VS cam, which is what I am shooting for?

will the resistor trick work with the VS cam also if I go that route and get an SES?

I put as resistor in and the only codes i got then were iat module to low but I havent check in a while.

115 LSA will give you a much longer torque curve then the 112 LSA, and peak torque will bue a higher RPM on the 115, up too you
