  • Problems w/ factory alarm remote/please help

The remote to my factory alarm is on the brink. I noticed it was harder to arm and disarm a few days ago. Then a couple nights ago it would not disarm and I ended up having to open the door w/ the key and drive home w/ my alarm going on & off and lights flashing.(It's not the battery because I put in a new one when the problem started.) So I opened the remote and wiped off the contacts(the black dots behind the buttons) w/ a rag and the remote started working again but only for about a day. Is there a better way to clean these off or is it time to hit the dealer up for a new remote? Anyone else have this problem?

This may sound stupid, but isn't there a battery in those remotes? All of our cars at home with factory alarms use a battery in the remote that has to be replaced every so often-sucks though cause some of them reset when the old battery is removed and its gotta go to the dealer to reprogram it. I've put a Viper alarm on my car and its been over two years with no problems so just guessing mine works the same way.

I spoke to a friend and he said to use alcohol to clean off the contacts but I haven't tried it yet cuz I don't wanna burn out anything on the remote. Is it safe?

Try resetting the fob by yourself...

Stand next to the car and hold the lock + unlock buttons (at the same time) on the fob for about 5 secs. The car will lock, unlock and honk the horn when it is complete.

Another friend just told me to use sandpaper and sand the contacts off a little bit. Has this worked for anyone else?

Ive had a problem where i could barely open my car any more. Like I had to use all my strength and push the unlock button in all the way for like 5 seconds standing by my car AND MAYBE it will open. These remotes suck real bad.
