if i have about $400 coming in with no more money for awhile, what performance modifications would anyone suggest for a completely stock 95 3.4L camaro. i'd like as much HP gain as possible, but parts that will last and aren't too incredibly hard to install, basically, the most bang for my buck, what do you guys suggest?
Here is a free be on your intake there is a silencer remove it to give you a bigger intake on your filter box, just pull out the filter box and on the side facing the driver side is a silencer remove and that should give you about a 5 h.p. gain

The intake is the first bottleneck on all fourth gens. Even the new LS1's need better intakes. Find a used FIPK (after a couple of months a brand new $200 kit becomes a used $100 kit, why not let someone else pay that extra $100. Catch my drift!?) A reputable, local exhaust shop should be able to replace you muffler or maybe even weld in a complete cat back for less than what you have left over from the intake. As far as easy, the intake will be a piece of cake, and the muffler shop will do the exhuast work. All you do is tell them "exactly" what you want and hand over the money. This will definately wake up your 3.4! Of all my mods (there aren't that many) the intake, exhaust, and Hypertech Power Programmer were the most noticeable gains. Good luck. you got one of those rare hpp huh?
what all does it do for you?

First, it knocks a $300 hole in your wallet!!! :( Plus, you have to use 92+ octane!!! :( I found mine on ebay.
But the gains are quite noticeable. I hope to put it on a dyno in the spring and get some numbers. No body on this board seems to get before and after numbers for their mods, just opinions.
1)So, I have noticed a raise in power, the car seems to actually accelerate harder instead of struggling to get going. I don't have to wait for 3500 RPMS for decent power. It smoothed out the powerband.
2)I really couldn't tell if it firmed up or changed the shift points. I have a B&M Shift+ that produces much more noticable gains in that department. It might have possibly tweeked out the shift points though to help accomodate the power increases.
3)It also removed the top speed limiter. (I'm asssuming it did since it asked me if I had Z-rated tires. I don't care to test that one out unless I'm at a track or dyno, it's just not worth the risk to me just to say it does it :D :D :D )
It definiately worth it. You just plug it and install the program. You don't have to get dirty for this mod!!!
I've contacted Hypertech about the specifics of the programmer but they reply saying that it isn't produced anymore so they can't say exactly what it does. More or less, they don't want to look it up. I would think they've got to have records of that kind of thing somewhere! Maybe some more persistence could produce some results.

Ok, look at my signature, woudl you believe I actually came close braking even on my parts (not labor). Hold the money, and keep trolling the boards, mostly CamaroZ8.com. Look for people parting out cars and ask for the intakes and exhaust...or you can search some of your local junk yards....for example. I got a Flowmaster and SS exhaust for $15. Then sold the Flowmaster for $60....I got my intake off a wrecked car, minus the filter for $30, filter from Jegs was only $50, then I sold the original airbox for $40....I did similar things with the rest of my mods, the only thing I have bought that was new was my wires.
If you use the money wisely, you can do a lot. I would also check out Ebay for some random stuff.

the hpp thing might be ok but its pretty rare last itme I even saw a used one it was form someone in Europe.
Either way personally tyhe best bang for the buck, get a really good free flowing systems some spend tons of money on expensive exhasut componenets I think if you can find a used z28 catback from a lt1 you have a start, if you don't liek the muffler you can get a new muffler for ~$100, the I-pipe is a half in. bigger then stock, I got mine for free, and I have heard peopel paying form $10-60 bucks for a used z28 exhasut setup.
I ahve heard its one of the best, I might be swithcing over to a z28 exhaust this week but we will see if I have time to do it.
You can buy a cold air intake but could cost ~$200, I built my own for roughly $80. Its not a high tech piece of machineary, its a pipe with a K&N cylinder filter on the end.
Iwo0udl consider if I wer you to do fule filter, plugs wires, maybe get some 8mm plug wires, and spark plugs jsut get something liek ac Delcos, expensive plugs do not really makke a performance gain, I would also consider flushing the motor, and changing PCV valve, Might as well flush coolant and put in a cooler thermos stat. I think this stuff will help your 3.4L more then the mods listed above, of you have a 3.4L its at least 8 years old and probabler needs some tune up stuff, stuff I mentioned you might be able to do for abotu $80-100, and exhaust if you ghet a good deal on a used z28 exhaust and take it to a shop for install maybe $75, and homemade CAI, about $100, to tweak it how you want it. If you have the money I woudl thro2w in a 1 piece steel lt1 drivesahft, then can be had for ~$25 and peopel say they have big gains I don't know I did mine same time as completre rear axle swap to go form 3.23s to 3.42s, and LSD, and 4-wheel disc brakes.
good luck.
jsut realized i need to update my sig with new times.

Would it be possible to get a pic of that silencer so that I can be sure exactly what I'm pulling out of my airbox?
Hey everyone! I've been trying to remove my transmission for two days now! I need to replace the clutch. Only thing I've got left holding the transmission...
