  • Heat shield - Rattle ?

Ok sold my firebird to my dad, I had just slowly gotten used tot he rattle from the exhaust/heat shield.

I had the exhaust checked a few months back, they said it was fine, that it could be the heat shield, but was too hot to touch to see if it was loose.

I'm 99% sure it's the heat shield to the cat...

So we were just going to rip it off this weekend, anyone else do this??

Is there anything there that actually needs cover from the heat?

Uhhh, I wouldn't suggest doing that. Removing the bottom heat shield would be alright, but not the top one. The heat from the cat would come right through the floorboard. Have you felt how hot it is with it on? It might cause serious heat risk if you don't have a shield on there.

Mine vibrates like an SOB. Your best bet is to take it to an exhaust shop (or any welder) and have the bead-weld the heat shield to the cat.
