  • Getting a PCM from the junkyard?

Apparently my PCM has gone bad, the shop wants $300 for a used PCM, i figure i could go find one from a pick and pull lot. Im just wondering if its gonna work in my car, If I get one with auto tranny and 3.8L

Be sure that the place that you buy it from has a return/exchange policy if the one you get doesn't work. I have always been leary about electronics that have been in a junk yard for a long time.

          I tried putting in a pcm from a '00 model into a '99. Same exact car ... didn't work.

If you go the junk yard route you will want to get the same year as the computer you are replacing. 95,96,97,98 are all potentially different.

Make sure it is the same year as yours. If the gears are different for some reason, you will have to have that changed. You probably will need a case learn as well.
