  • V6 drag performance?

just like the LT1 is known for its low end power, and LS1 for its top end power, do our 3.8s have good low end power or top end power? any one know? what about for 3.4s?

  • #2
3.8 have more power mid range to top end. I would say above 3500RPM you we have good HP and TQ numbers. This is just from driving my car. I dont have any dynograph's to prove this. Im sure somebody on the boards could post a dyno of there 3.8 and you can look at the power curve.

Heres a dyno graph on Ironman's website I found. Im not sure what mods he had on the car at the time but it will give you an idea.

Isn't that an oxymoron (might be spelled wrong) Drag Performance????

stock the 3.8 dies on the top end. it's got pretty good low and mid range. most stock dynoes die at about 4500. start modding and all bets are off.

Yeah , the 3.4 is all about its low end power , the top end aint too good but I just got headers ,exhaust , and CAI , and my car flys on top end now . Now I need some 3.42 gears to run easy 15's in the 1/4 mile.

I'd say that it's a great combo of a high torque engine at the low rpm's and, if you look at the GM link posted in the previous post, makes most of it's power at the high rpms. What I've noticed is that at the high rpms, in order to make our cars scream, you need to open up the intake and exhaust to let it breathe and don't short shift. Take it to the rev limiter (but don't bounce off of it) and our beloved bulletproof docile Buick boulevard cruiser engine can be really fun!

My 2002 Definitely has more top end, especially from 3500 to 4000 RPM, where max torque starts to kick in
