i recently installed a 180 degree thermostat on my car. it does a good job at keeping it between 160 and 180, the only thing is that on a cool day or when the suns not on it, the temp stays below 160 and will rarely hit the 160 mark. Is the engine being this cool bad?

a 180 thermostat is supposed to make the engine run at 180degrees or hotter... you do know how a thermostat works correct? How are you measuring your temperature? Is your thermostat installed backwards or is it stuck open?2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

Just wait for winter...the 180 will still give some heat in car but I had the 160 installed in SC and i froze in the winter (just think what wisconsin would be like)....and the winters are not bad there......I have the 180 deg. my temp is the same as yours...when I sit in trafic the temp creep up very slowly.....Joel
God is my copilot, but Satan has his foot on the gas!
94 3.4L AutoCamaroRagtop w/MSD ignition,Accelcoilpacks,K&N FIPK,BMR SFC&STB,3\"Catco w/3\"catbackSS muffler,JetStage 2,HomemadePIAAheadlightconversion http://www.geocities.com/cardiac1968

It is installed right, and i'm using my engine temperature gauge to measure. The line between 100 and 220 should be the 160 degree mark. I'll check to see if it's stuck open, i was kinda thinking that myself.New Car: 2004 GTP Comp G (Test Vehicle) 13.936@99.32
Mods: Cylinder Filter,No Mufflers, 3.3\"
Old Car: 2000 Formula 13.124 @ 106.01 with 2.73\'s
Other Car: 1993 Firebird 16.1@83

I wouldnt trust the temp gauge. Its not as accurate as you think. Its not even really accurate with the stock thermo, much less a 180 deg.Black 1996 3.8L Firebird A4
--------------------------
Custom CAI, Flowmaster Dual Exhaust, 160 Deg Thermo, BMR ShockTower Brace
JVC mp3 HU, two 12\" Infinity Kappa Perfects, Infinity 6.5\" components, JBL 600.1 & 80.4 amps
Pics
