Yeah, and why are people changing their oil at 1500 miles? Probably the same reason. Or maybe they have a money tree in their backyard.

Personally I change mine at 3000, I probably don't even drive it hard enough to need to do that. But I don't think I'd call someone an idiot just because they wait for the oil change light.

Remember, you don't need to change the oil if it isn't dirty. Just check it frequently if you want to know when you need to change it. The light is a convenience... a reminder that you probably should change the oil if you haven't already done so.

An interesting sidenote... we're lucky we have an f-body. The idiot who designed the oil change system on the Aztek decided that to reset the light, you should turn the key to ON, then depress the throttle 4 times in five seconds (or something like that, I don't remember what it was exactly) to reset the light. I had to reset that on my sister's... took me forever, cause it would always give me the blinking light since I didn't depress the pedal exactly how the computer wanted.

Changing your oil depends on the type of oil. When the detergents and other addatives wear out then it is time to change.

Witch conventional oil that time is usually around 3k miles. With Synthetic blends you can go a bit further, and with full synthetics I have heard you can go in the range of 7-12k depending.

As a side note. Royal Purple is full sythetic and is manufactured here in the USA. No mid-east oil products there! Made in Tx!

My oil light doesn't come on, only when I put the ignition in the on position and all the lights light up.

I used Mobile 1 Trisynthetic and changed every 5k miles. 3k is a little overkill when it comes to synthetics.

And my gas guage when fuel is about a 1/4 in. past the full mark.

GM guages are not know to be accurate.

I am about due for an oil change, coming up on maybe 3500, which converts to about maybe 3300 on my car with gears
