I've been in North Carolina for the past couple of months and haven't had my oil changed in almost 7000mi/4 months or so. I've been using Mobil 1 with a regular AC Delco filter. Anyway, I've been checking the level and everything and maintaining it. I'm not hurting anything am I? I don't race, and I've got a new FRAM air filter... I'm smarter than I sound, but I'm just worried about my child ;)

Word. I change mine a little before 3000 miles. The way I see it if I have a choice between a little before or a little after 3000, its better to take a little before every time. There is no such thing as oil that is too fresh.

I change mine between 3K and 4K. Where you live makes all the difference. If you live where there is a lot of durt roads your intake will suck up a lot of durt and so changing every 2K would be a good idea. I live in a clean area with no durt roads so my oil does not look so bad even after 4K.White 98 Camaro with t-tops leather and Y87. I waited till my oil light came on once just for an experiment and it took almost 7000 miles for it to come on. I now change mine at 3000 but I am curious just how accurate this light is exactly. I know it is supposed to measure the viscosity of the oil but with the accurateness of the other guages I personally do not trust this light at all. Just my .02

Dosen't our "oil system" keep testing the oil to see when it chemistry of the oil gets bad. And then our oil light comes on. I read that somewhere. IF not how does our oil light work? And my dad's Cady STS does that.Mike
www.my99firebird.gq.nu

the oil light just measures the distance your car has travelled and how hard you've driven on it. If it always tested the oil, then you would never have to reset the light after each oil change.
I experimented once and I basically was going WOT all the time around town and the light came on at 1600mi.

You can go up to 7500 mi on oil, if you drive normally... as it clearly states in the manual. It all really depends on how dirty the oil gets, not how many miles you put on it.
The Oil change light uses engine run time and load to decide when to turn on.Matt
2000 Firebird

FullThrottleV6.com
