Russell-
Maybe you can help me in my other thread..
I will ask here..
Do the heads off a 3.1 fit on a 3.4?
And do you think I will see a gain from P&P and a valve job?
I can get the heads free, my dad can P&P, and I can get a valve job cheap from my dad's friend. One of the friends will do it free, but we are gonna pay for a lot better job.
And if you can't buy something to carb your 3.4... isn't the edelbrock performance intake manifold something you can buy so you can put a carb on your 3.4? lol<b><a href=\"http://members.cox.net/95batmobile/d86f.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Sinister Six©</b></a><br /><a href=\"http://www.sounddomain.com/id/95batmobile\" target=\"_blank\">My \'95 Bird</a><br />I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.

nice try :-p
but what i said was that you cant buy something from Supersix Motorsports that'd make it carb'd ;) heheh
anyway. a port and polish on the iron heads will give you good results yes, but only if it helps the engine breath better and you make sure to treat all parts. in other words, porting and polishing the heads will do nothing if you don't make sure that the TB will flow as much as the heads can, or at least don't bottleneck it a whole lot.
if you are gonna do the heads, might as well get a cam that works good.
anyway..2.8/3.1/3.4 heads are interchangable. the gen i 3.1/3.4 (iron head engines - RWD) use the same heads, so yea..they would work fine.

Russell,
Whoa, I had no idea that the 3400 Alum Heads were (or could be) interchangeable.
Presumably, SOMETHING, has to be done (minor or major) to effect this upgrade?
First, is there a link you could refer me to?
Also, any idea which models might have these heads standard? or is it like the DOHC?
Thanks again, JimJim Gunther

nope. ya dont i used RKSport headers (Cause pacesetter was on backorder) and just notched the top holes so it'd fit properly (the ports/bottom bolt holes are in the same location, its the top holes that have changed)
i get no exhaust leaks and everything is good ..so...no worries
anyway..<hr></blockquote>
i wouldnt use pasesetters there junk but available now from summitt also if you check scfba.net we have a listing on our front page for a dennis abbey he is the guru of exhaust so give him a call he will teach you more about exhaust then you will ever want to know also he can explain better whats wrong with rks and pasesetter and why its important to have the headers custom built

I won't use 3.1 heads in place of 3.4 heads. The valves are smaller on the 3.1s.<hr></blockquote>
to get the most from your 3.4 heads you will need to change the valves any way call and talk to supersix they have suggested 1.80 i think but any way check with them they will steer you right

3.4 FWD aluminum stock heads are better than port/polished RWD iron heads? What's up with that?!
I'm also looking at the Super Six PowerPak for my 3.4 and thought it looked like a pretty good deal? Although I wondered about that cam they sell with it... it doesn't look much more aggressive than stock?
I mean stock is 204/216 & 427/454
Their cam is 212/212 & 440/440 (with 1.5 rockers)

the 3.1L RWD heads used 1.70/1.42 valves. the 3.4 RWD heads are the same heads as on the 3.1L engines. EXACTLY.
thats why im trying to show everyone that the FWD stuff is better. and thats exactly why the 3.4 doesnt perform very well. the 3.4 uses the same head design from when the 2.8L 60^ v6 was introduced. the head design is like 10 years old!! yes the introduced better (bigger) valves, but other than that..no real design changes...then the FWD heads came along, Gen II + III are lightyears ahead of the Gen I Cast Iron head.
to compare -- Tiagos fully ported NRT Iron heads flow like 153 intake and 149 exhaust.
my stock condition (thats right folks the way they came from gm's casting facility) 3100 heads (Gen III with stamped 1.5 non-roller rocker arms) flow 160 / 132 (thats cubic feet min for those of you that dont know).
so...my heads are slightly better on the intake, and slightly worse on the exhaust... but mine are STOCK from the factory heads, tiagos have been completely worked over.. go figure that one out.
anyway. sorry to tell everyone on this thread that if they want any further info they are gonna have to contact me . im tired of the idiot 3.8L owners on this board thinking they are all important. so im leaving it. takin my knowledge elsewhere...who knows, maybe ill make my own 60* f-body site/board and go with that...dedicated to ONLY the 60* fbody. sides...its a better racing motor than the 3.8 anyway. no harmful vibrations and all that.
whatever..if you wanna contact me about anything, all my info is in my profile. just dont abuse it.
thanks.

Can you help me out then Russell?
Should I look for some heads like yours from a junkyard or port, polish, and get a valve job on this set of 3.1 heads laying around?
Or get some heads like urs and do the work on them? I just want something that will bolt on with no major modifications... what did you have to do for your heads to fit? Would I be able to take the stuff out of my heads and put them in some of the gen III heads?
Thanks for helping man, I am lost when it comes to this stuff.<b><a href=\"http://members.cox.net/95batmobile/d86f.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Sinister Six©</b></a><br /><a href=\"http://www.sounddomain.com/id/95batmobile\" target=\"_blank\">My \'95 Bird</a><br />I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.
