BOTH of my motors decided to get even with me and died. I put a new one in the drivers side and only after using alot of grease did i get it to go up and down. The drivers side had been replaced before. So now im trying to replace the passengers side and it was a factory motor, so i had to drill out the holes for the bolts. I replaced the motor and greased the tracks as i did the 1st one. The window is all the way up and would only go down 1 inch. I could get it to go back up but NO further down. I re-greased the rollers and still no go. I ended up heating up the motor and burning it out. I returned it to the Auto Parts store and played dumb, ummmm i dunno what happened, all i know is it didnt work :D They gave me a replacement. Any suggestions as to whats happening, or something i did NOT do or do wrong? i dont want to go and burn this motor up but i desperately want my window to go down so i can holla at the hotties beside me

This is a PITA!!!!! No two ways around it. Honestly, I would have someone do it. With the weight of the window and the spring load, you could take a hand off in seconds with one mistake.
I did this once and will NEVER do it again. I like my hands!
Sorry I don't have anything better for you.

I have done mine a couple of time (b/c they are POS)! Search this site and CSz28 and you will find links to a site how to do it. BTW, if you follow the site you do not have to remove the whole unit, and you don't have to worry about the spring.Joel
God is my copilot, but Satan has his foot on the gas!
94 3.4L AutoCamaroRagtop w/MSD ignition,Accelcoilpacks,K&N FIPK,BMR SFC&STB,3\"Catco w/3\"catbackSS muffler,JetStage 2,HomemadePIAAheadlightconversion http://www.geocities.com/cardiac1968

When I bolted the new motor on, it did the same thing. I backed it off a little(not so tight and it worked fine). Hope this helps.95 Camaro 3.8L Y2K motor
www.cardomain.com/id/coriya71

I did my passenger motor, drilled the door and all, honestly it wasn't that bad. The trick is doing it with the window all the way up, at which point you put something in the door too stop the window from moving. I just used part of a 2x4 and stuck it in there. Not that I would want to do it again if I didn't have to, but it sure isn't as difficult as replacing a rear main.3.42 gears w/ LSD,
Headers, Cat delete, Loudmouth,
SLP intake, K&N, Whisper Lid,
EGR delete

Here is the thing, when you remove the door panels, shove two rubber door stops b/w the door and glass. Put one at the front, one at the rear. Once you drill the holes in the door and dril out the rivets the motor comes right out, no risk of "losing a finger." The weight of the window keeps the spring in place. If you remove the entire essembly as I did the first time, them you run the risk with the spring, not to mention it is a huge freaking PITA. Do a search on this site for the same subject and you will find the links for the motor swap.....it takes less then 30 minutes after you have done it once.
BTW to the others who have posted that it is so dangerous and you should hire someone to do it. If you want to pay someone $45-75/hour for what the "book" says takes several hours, go right ahead. Let me just say, there is a reason my name is CARdiac and my hands have a lot to do with my job, so if i am willing to risk it, I am sure you will be fine. If you have any questions feel free to drop me and email and I will shoot you my cell phone, I can talk you thru any tough spots....or you can drive to Houston and you can do your windows when I redo mine....I hate those cheap @ss motors.Joel
God is my copilot, but Satan has his foot on the gas!
94 3.4L AutoCamaroRagtop w/MSD ignition,Accelcoilpacks,K&N FIPK,BMR SFC&STB,3\"Catco w/3\"catbackSS muffler,JetStage 2,HomemadePIAAheadlightconversion http://www.geocities.com/cardiac1968

I did both my drivers and passenger side window motors.
I can honestly say it takes me 1 min to take off my door panel.
And like 5 min to put it back on.
Window motors are an easy DIY project, its intimidating the first time, once you do it 1 time next time will be a breeze. You will be slapping your self if you take it to a mechanic. Sinde its an easy job, just do what Quijeeboe did and wedge a 2x4 in there.

I'd like to thank CARdiac. He has just reminded us that some people do work on there cars, but choose to pay someone else to do **** they don't want to!!
I personally don't want to see someone hurt, much less get hurt myself. MY JOB relys on my hands working. I'll do gears, suspension, motor work, you name it.... but when it comes the chance of me losing a finger and not doing my JOB, I'll pay the few dollars.
AND yes, I am "thrifty", but not stupid.

i replaced my passenger side, I just got my brothe to hold up the window so it doesnt fall on me, not too hard at all, just follow the instructions and its done.
the only problem now is that my driver side is going bad and my passenger side wont roll the window all the way up unless I open the door.
I think those motors that autozone sells are crap.
anyone know any good and faster motors out there??
I personally think our windows roll up and down way too slow, i think stronger motors should do the trick.2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6
M6, Magnaflow\'s 14336
C6 Pics

Old car:
1996 Firebird A4
SLP Cold Air Intake
Magnaflow Catback Exhaust
Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

George Mason University
CEIE Major
Pi Kappa Alpha

Firebird Pics
