  • Engine Stumble - sensor - no SES light! HELP

My 99 which has never had a problem resently developed a stumble in idle and acceleration. I replaced the plugs, while does idle smoother it didn't solve the problem. This stumble does not occur all the time, just randomly in idle and/or under acceleration. Could this be a sensor or something else. i don't believe its misfiring although it feels like its retarding the firing to make this stumble. Why is there no SES light when this happens? Since there is no light I'm guessing its not a coil pack but rather a sensor miscommunicating. I've heard the sensor in the air intake(name has left my mind as I type) can get dirty from K&N fluid - could that cause this problem?

mine did the same thing for a little while. it got really bad and throwing errant codes out. like bad crank sensor and stuff. I put on some new wires and plugs and ran some sea foam through it. and it fixed it. Mine was mostly when taking off from a dead start. felt like the tranny slipping.

im thinking you Mass air flow senor, or your throttle posion sensor

          could be bad O2 sensor.

Check the Cat, my did that in the early stages of a clogged cat, the backpressure did havoc to my EGR valve and I had a bit of a stumble.

Bang on your car when its cold to check for rattles, or get a heat sensor on it while its hot.

Why if the sensors are bad, why wouldn't they throw a code? Also I had the cat replaced by the dealer about 8K miles ago.
