Questions about Air Intake

Well dunno if its at all possible on a Firebird but can u put a under the car ram air and or (i may lose respect for saying this but) putting a cold air intake i know i have room for a cold air intake but can u even put it in a firebird ...if anyone has done this b4 i could use some explanationt thanks

With some cheap aluminum dryer parts you can make one or both of your nose scoops functional. Check out my website for details on how I made mine.

Hey, I dont know if this will help you out, but if you want a cheap way out of a CAI, heres a few pics of one I made with a few Home Depot parts. The reusable filter cost me 20 bucks, and the other parts were just a few bucks. The only hard part is finding something that will fit between the small opening between the radiator and engine near the filter. I used a bent exhaust pipe. Im not going to claim it gave me any type of increase in anything, because I honestly dont know, I just figured anything is better than the very restrictive stock set up. Hope this gives you some sort of ideas.

well im not sure if im gonna do this anymore , from what i heard doesnt make to much difference might save up and get new gears

he has a 96. neither of those will work. the best choice is the slp cai. (do a search to learn more about that intake...)

you keep saying "on a firebird". im not sure whether this is what youre asking, but camaros and firebirds are set up the exact same way. The 98+ and the 93-97 had two different intake setups but they are the same when comparing camaros to firebirds.

The slp intake is very much worth it in my opinion, but if youre looking for a cheap solution you can do what i did...

Go out and buy a K&N filter that fits your normal airbox. take off the air scilencer... the big black thing on the right side of the airbox. you have to just yank it up real good and it will come out. Take the right side of the airbox (the side closer to the drivers side.. far right when facing the car) Below the hole where the air box was cut another other hole in the airbox. aboud 2 inches by 3 inches is what i did. you should position the hole so that it is below the aluminum that surrounds the airbox. This way it is below the engine compartment. I have no idea whether this mod helped at not when i had it on my car. My buddy just got himself a new v6 (1997) and i gave him my whole setup that i just described. You could definitely tell a difference when we put it in his car. This was probably due in part to the fact that his filter was filthy. It sure cant hurt to try.

And by the way, if nothing else, it sounds a lot cooler than the stock intake (if you like that gurgly sucking noise that aftermarket intakes make). It was almost as loud as my slp.

You can remove your airbox and install a K&N filter onto the existing silencer-to-airbox elbow. If you can't afford K&N, use a Purolater A34486 filter. If you think you need more air volume at the track, pin your MAF boot back from the intake silencer.
