  • Starter problem...

I am sort of busy so I will keep it short

tropical storm eduarti(whatever its called) flooded the area, I am usually pretty good at avoiding deep puddles but one surprised me, I drove thought i normal stuff like belts, and brakes working like crap for a bit. Well about an hour later when I started the car, thye starter sounded like it whirred a bit with out hte car cranking, I stopped and started it againa and car cranked and started.

drove to where I had to go and it had the smae problem, so I started the car, let it heat waaay up doo to an unrelated cooling fan problem. then dorve soem more, then pakred, let car heat up again, then shut it off. I am hoping its something simple like water shorting a connection, and maybe the heat, will help dry it up.

any ideas, other then replace starter?

Well looks likethe best happened, jsut the starter needed to dry out.

I anm gld I heated the car waay up before I parked it, might have taken awhile to dry out as humid as it is now.

could be that the stater needs a little lube after that water you went through. You might want to take it off and check to see if the litte gear the moves back and forth like it should. I don't know how much you know about how starters work so I will tell you. When you turn the key a little gear in the starter is pushed out and connects with the flywheel when the engine starts and you release the key the gear is pulled back in from the flywheel. It sounds like the gear is having problems moving back and forth. This could be caused by rust or just the lack of lube. hope that helped. good luck
