  • How to preform a tune up

    my car has just over 40k on it I change the oil about every 4k (im using synthetic) I just want to know what all I should do to preform a FULL tune up I have access to a shop so it aint no thing and I can get the things I supose I will need... I just wanted to get a full list of things to change, inspect, and test and what ever.

    Ok, I'll take a shot.

    I'll assume you've done nothing but change the oil and that you drive the car moderately hard like most of us. :D

    I'd:

    Change the oil and filter
    Clean and re-oil the K&N
    Replace the fuel filter
    Replace the PCV valve
    Check the serpentine belt for wear
    Change the diff oil
    Drain and flush the cooling system
    Replace the spark plugs
    Inspect the spark plug wires
    Flush and fill the transmission
    Rotate the tires
    Inspect the brake system and replace pads if necessary

    Im sure there are more things you could check, but this is what I just did at 40,000 miles, myself.

        Some GM Top Engine Cleaner will help too. You can get it at the GM dealership. It will help to clear out any carbon deposits that have built up in your intakes, heads and on the top of your pistons. I have used it on our Vette and my 3.4L and it really helps an engine come alive.
