  • Which one of the 3 is best?

    I don't usually like to post "which one should I buy" type posts..but I am stuck between 3 things right now, and maybe 1 is better to get before the others. I'm deciding between..

    1) Torque Converter
    2) Nitrous
    3) Cam

    Which one would give me the most power? I know nitrous can be an exception from that question, because I could always change jet sizes. I'm leaning towards a TC more than the other 2 right now. Would you need good tires for a TC? I get the impression that I would need to buy DR's to utilize the TC's power off the line. Do aftermarket cams do much for the 3.4?

    Which would be the best bang for the buck?

    I would go for the cam (w/better rockers). More usuable power now, plus you can pick one that could compliment the other two options further down the road.

      I would say to not get the nitrous, unless your engine has a lot of miles on it and you're looking for a reason to rebuild it, then I would just spray a 250 shot until it blew [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img] . Nitrous would give you the most power, but theres always the chance of Fing up your engines internals. Otherwise, the cam is probably the best bang for the buck, considering how much cheaper it can be. Although, I would get a torque convertor before a cam, but that's just me. The website has an area, modifications encyclopedia I beleive, and it is a big help, you should look there.

        *sarcasm* 3.4 slo to go, did you know we had a modification encyclopedia? i mean, i know your member 392 and you have had over 5000 posts, but you may want to look there.

        id say cam probably, if you want to mess with tuning some. a cam and a maft+ would be fun.

        but nitrous is easier.

          Hey...just to share my experience.. I'm at the same stage you are.... considering nitrous, cam and stall.

          One of my friends is putting in a cam right now which will probably make him faster than me for a long time... so there is a push to do that, but i dont' want to open my block till i can do it myself.

          Nitrous... seen too many nitrous explosions. Scared me off it [img]smile.gif[/img] Also, you can only use that power at the track. The stall helps every launch, track or street and the cam is always working for you [img]smile.gif[/img]

          Stall... a good baseline for future mods(in my case cam and turbo)... it'll make stoplights a lot more fun [img]smile.gif[/img]

          Anyways, my decision was stall with suspension upgrades.

            With a 3.4L V6, do a cam. The stock cams are weak and most likely it is worn down pretty bad like mine was. When I installed a new cam, it felt like a whole new car.

              holy crap, an actual encyclopedia for modifications? next you'll be saying the sun rises in the east & sets in the west :rolleyes: :rolleyes: *sarcasm*

              Camaro_SLP, you may also want to look into suspension mods. Might be able to hook yourself up pretty good just for the price of a cam ;)

                I had my mind set on doing a TC, but I think I may do a cam now. I don't know everything there is to know abouts cams yet, so I have plenty of research to do. One question I have is, would I want to get headers before a new cam? I already have full intake and exhaust, minus headers. I should add headers first, correct?

                  I would say cam, but in getting a high performance cam you won't see the results as much in a auto without the torque converter, due to the change in powerband. I bigger cam will raise your powerband thus creating a need for a higher stall converter. Nitrous is a quick fix for power, but if don't incorrectly can really mess up your engine. My .02.. Hope it helps
