• RS or not??

ok, so i have a 97v6 camaro, and i go to college with a guy with a 97v6 camaro. Well, he signed up for free carfax's for a month and so he ran my car and his. Both came back as camaro/rs. Is that just because they group both together or what?
thanks

Camaro/RS, meaning 'Camaro base' OR 'Camaro RS'.

Tell your insurance ***** to go f--k himself if he wants to charge you more, thinking its an RS.

carfax might come back as that, all V8 birds come back as "formula" so it might be the way the carfax works.

... how much more could your insurance charge you for a RS (pre 1998)

I can understand 2000+ RS's which were slp cars, but i can't see the difference being much for the 93-97 cars.

Eery insurance company I have talked to called or described a V6 Camaro as an RS. It seems like they really don't make a separation between the two.

i knew what was in the RS package i was just wondering why it came back like that. i figured that carfax just grouped them together. i don't know about the insurance thing though.

I think the carfax just groups them all as the same. (base model --- RS) My insurance carrier does this as well. They list mine as an RS.

I thought they only made the 4th gen RS in 96 and 97??

Are the others such as the 2000 SLP listed further up "real" RS's, or are they an aftermarket RS that a dealership sent off to have upgraded?

I would be interested in seeing the RPO list for the supposedly RS camaros.

On mine there is a Y3F wich is for "SALES PACKAGE RS CAMARO UPFITTER" which means that it is indeed a TRUE RS! :D

The 96 and 97's are also sent off to SLP for the ground effects as noted with the RPO code CAE "GM ST Therese to SLP LaSalle Quebec Four Upfitter Conversion" but it is before they ever reach the dealership.

Just curious.

And everyone on eBay calls a V6 camaro a RS. So when people do searches for RS their cars will pop up.

They officially made the SLP RS's in 2001 & 2002 and it is rumored that there may be a few '00 (less than 10).

In 2001, they made a few less than 2002, but here are the specs on mine:
