  • Vibration at idle

Hello, my car seems to vibrate when it is idle. Immediatly after turning the car on it doesnt vibrate, but when stopped at a stop light etc the car vibrates. The idle speed looks normal and isn't jumping around or anything, and if i put the car into neutral or park the idling stop. It feels like the car is trying push against the brake and go... any ideas?

I have a very similar problem, only i would not say my car feels like it is pushing against the brake and wanting to go.

I posted my problem maybe two months ago or so, and no one could give me any feedback on the topic. In my case it is real minor and it does not do it all the time, but it would be nice to find out what is going on and how to fix it.

I have no idea what it could be. My car is perfectly maintained!

Hopfully we will have better luck this time around.

Well, because its an auto, then engine is actualy pulling when its in gear. Are you talking about that or is it just a rough idle?

its tough to say what it could be. I have been trying to fix my rough idle prob for a while now. i have thouroghly looked over at the aspects that cause it, vacumms egr plugs wires rad pressure, intake leaks, filters, .. . . . But i havent checked compression. I believe i my have a compression prob. or valves leaking. But i think my car is new enough to not have those problem yet. 63,000 miles aint bad. but shi* happens so i just deal with it and turn up the volume

But other that that crap, check all you can maybe its something really little like plug gap or something. What have you tried so far?

My 95 Firebird did the same thing. I would be at a light and my car seemed like it wanted to go, i would have to press the brake down really hard to fight against it. I changed my PCV valve and my wires and there was no rough idle at all. Car is motionless when i'm stopped at a light (except for the lil' motion from the exhaust). I don't know if that might be your problem or not. If u haven't changed ur PCV valve i'd suggest u do it, cheap and fast.

also found to be on mine that a bad egr valve causes a rough idle, just incase you are getting a code showing as well

you have a 3.4, get used to it.... I have a 3.4 and a 3.8.... so untill someone has owned both... they dont know "jack schitt"

the 3.4 wasnt very balanced... gm did a terrible job on that motor...

my 3.8, sometimes when its started, i dont know if its running... cant tell....

the 3.4 the whole car rumbles...
although it did start moving a little less when i changed the fuel filter, and a little less when i added lucas to my oil
