• In the midst of a VERY odd problem! Plz help!!

Alright so heres whats happening. I'm driving and suddenly my temp just goes up and up and up... Its about 230 (which I have never ever had before ) and I pull over. Well, coolant was leaking and some of it got on the exhaust pipe and burned, and it looks like its leaking from the bottom of the water pump, so i went ahead and changed that. Problem is, the belt that was on it, the top side was gone to he**. THe plastic lining was either burned off or ripped off, and in some parts there was an indication of actually ripping of the threads (again, not from the bottom where there are those gripping lines on the acc. belt, the TOP lol ) So I bought a new one , ( the one was fairly new also.. ) This is when I noticed the left pulley, the extra one, had a divvit (sp?) where it sank in about a quarter of an inch in an area 1x1 inches.... and in that area was alot of that black stuff that comes on top of the acc. belt .. that plastic goober... question is.. should I replaced that pulley? I don't understand how that would actually RIP the threads, or maybe it weakened it and the other pulleys ripped it? Or maybe its just the water pump that needed replacing?( Which I just got done doing, along with flushing resoivor and radiator) Any help would be apprecaited, including how much and where I could buy a new one? (autozone?) and how to remove those suckers

Any pulley surface that touches the belt that is not round as it should be will slowly tear the belt apart. By all means, I would replace that sucka.

Just about any autoparts store should have it (check Autozone on-line at www.autozone.com). You just remove the belt, unbolt the old pulley and put in the new.

Which accessory is the pulley for? I will look it up in the GM Parts Catalog if I know which pulley I am going for.

I went to Autotech and it was jsut for the idler so it only cost me 20 smacks for the new pulley I went ahead and replaced the coolant (flushed) water pump and such, and my car runs COOLER then a mofo ( inbetween the 160 and hte middle mark when cruising, BARELY to the middle mark when sitting in traffic, not even using my fans ) so everything is cleared up now! Thanks to all who helped! :D
