  • Problems with car starting.

    Alright, basically two weeks ago my battery started going to ****. It wouldn't hold a charge overnight (sometimes it would), but when I jumped it, it'd start immediately and be fine for at least the rest of the day. I went to jump it the night before last and it wouldn't start at all. You could hear the starter turning, and it would sound like the engine would start for a minute, you could hear it do a couple of revolutions and then it would just die. Now my first thought is that there might be some fuel puddling since I kinda stabbed at the throttle a lil' bit trying to get it to keep going, but I would think that if it was hydrolocked from fuel, that it wouldn't turn over at all. I just put in a new battery and the problems still occuring. Any advice?

      Nope. Replaced that today and same stuff happening. Besides if it was the alternator the car would start and run till the battery drained.

        Anyone think a coil pack, plug, or wire would cause this? I would think that if one of those were bad that the car would start, but just run like ****. My friend thinks it may be a timing sensor of some sort and that the car's timing is somehow off. Anyone know where the cam position sensor comes out?

          cam position sensor is on top of the front of the block..

            Well the coil packs all seem to be fine. If it was a plug or wire the car would at least run, it'd run like sh!t but it'd run. Is there any way to test the cam or crank position sensors? Or do I just have to buy them and see what happens?

                im not sure what the sensor looks like off the top of my head, i know i pulled one out of my spare motor a while back. but that is the correct place for it. i would go look at my car, but its dark , ifi remember to tomorow i'll take a look at my ride

                  If it was the cam sensor your car would still run. The camshaft sensor is used to calculate the fuel injection mode of operation. If it dies then the engine will use the last fuel injection pulse calculation and continue to run.

                  Autozone will check these for free. It sounds like it could be the Crankshaft Position Sensor... Mine was mucked up causing the engine to lose signal and die. However after it cooled down again the car would start fine.

                    How do you get to the crank position sensor on the 3.4?
