  • Looks like I got a free mod....

well, this is my second camaro... On my first one, the gov would cut me off at 118..... Well on this one, I got it up to 125 yesterday.... So im guessin a previous owner put a chip in it or had it reporgrammed...

What should I look for to see?

Do you got tires that are rated for those speeds?

If you ask me, if your going to speed insanely do it where if you screw up you wont hurt anyone else but yourself and your car and maybe a tree or telephone pole or whatever stops you besides your brakes if thats what winds up happening. I myself have been to 108 in my car and that was on a really flat straight stretch of 4 lane divided highway that you can see straight ahead for about 1.5 miles. It was about 2 in the morning also so there wasnt a soul in sight nor are there any houses around for me to hit. Ive onely done it once and doubt I will ever do it again. To be honest when I get to anything above 90mph it scares the crap outta me. Im not sure why, I guess its just the fact that I know if something goes wrong im pretty much dead. If your going to try death defying speeds, do it where your the only one cheating death and not putting someone else in a bad position. Thats how I see it.

I second not excessively speeding. Unless it's under extremely safe conditions. Empty highway, or backroad. Even then unforseen things such as deer jumping out in the road can still be present. I can atest to that had a wild offroad detour at 60 in the bird. Luckily my car and myself are ok.

Marty85- 90mph scaries you....don't ever ride with me.

WHy do you jump all over people i they speed? I assume most people on this forum wont be stupid when it comes to redlining it.

You all aren't the police get off peoples back. You have done it too.

This forum is about people with sports cars trying to make them faster. Live and let live. When someone says they are doing 118mph cutting in and out of traffic then give them hell.

my 96 has hit 125 and a little more after that with no computer mod. and im sure Betty Robinson the 85 year old realestate agent(found her card under back seat) first and last owner before me did NOT put a chip in the car to go over 125. i think the guys at gm just like to "accidentally" forget to make the connection to the board or whatever. we call those factory freaks along with way way fast stock cars compared to the same stock car that runs a full second slower or more.

you live in NJ, if you lived in texas you would understand a little better...

a lot of highways here are A LOT idffernt than what you have.... we have many roads that are completely straight for MILES which have no cars on them... The only person I would have to worry about getting hurt is myself..... so before you start flaming on someone.... get your facts straight

well back to the orginal subject, I believe cars with a 3.08 rear end cut out at 125 or so, also at that speed if your speedo is a couple of percentage points off it's gonna inflate your speed. For instance with my 245 tires my speedo reads something like 2% fast. So in theory my speedo would show over 120 when I'm going 118. Just a few things to consider. and yeah those long straight flat stretches are cool to open up on.
