I've had my 97 Firebird for about two months now but one thing I have noticed and hasn't gone away is the car seems to be burning oil. Since I am new to F-Body cars I dont know if this is normal or not? Right now it is going through about a quart of oil a month but there seems to be no leak.

My '98 Camaro has about 42,000 miles on it. It does not burn any oil.
How many mile are on your car? New rebuilt motor?
I would think over 125,000 miles and you may see some oil loss. It really all depends on how well the car was maintained. New rebuilt motors will consume quite a bit of oil before the rings set.
Check the tail pipe. Is it real sooty (sp)? Any smoke?

The engine has 53000 miles on it now but I bought it in Washington DC with 50000 miles on it. There is some suit on the tail pipe but there is no smoke ever and other than that the car has been in near perfect condition so far.97\' Silver Firebird T-Top M5<br />Edelbrock Catback

Did you change the oil?
I changed mine after 3k miles (at 41k) and started having problems. The service department found three oil-related leaks: manifold, oil seal and rear main.
There's also a TSB from quite some time ago about cars burning oil for about 1000 miles after an oil change, then the problem disappearing until the next change.
Good luck in finding the problem, and resolving it.
