Can anyone give me some general info on a '00 3.8L 5-speed?

Jsut looking for some info, I know the basics but anything else that is a little more specific?

also is it a decent year to mod? or not? I know some years had little aftermarket.


From first look it has an electric TB. Its a non-y87, non-LSD car( :( I miss LSD already)

Any other stuff like that?

I have a non y87, have no problem with it. Rather do things myself then get them from the factory(not to mention my car cost 16k from the factory with 14miles on it).

yeah, I would rather spend the $150 for LSD, then $4k more for a Y87 car.

Its a 5-speed, no gear differences anyways. And exhaust? Its not that much better.

yes, the 00's and up had the tubular manifolds.

eric, start with the easy stuff...lid, free ram air, or fast toys...

youcan get a ZT LSD from slp for around 100 before shipping, so that's easy.

yes, it does have electric throttle, which i think SUCKS! can't freakin stand it.

I don't know if you knew, but fighter jets use fly-by-wire system. You have drive-by-wire system. It is whole lot more accurate and precise (in terms of adjusting fuel-air ratios) than just plain old mechanical. I have it and I love it.

Personally if I had to choose I woudl rather have a mechanical TB, then fly by wire, granted the computer taking over alot of things but its jsut another sensor and motor that will burn out, while most throttle body cables last forever.

Yeah it has tubular manifolds, by the way, why is everyone *****ing about changing plugs? Looks easier then it was on my 3.4L?


As for mods, might not even ever do any to this car, well at least for now.

yeah, and i bet they're MUCH more sophisticated too. :rolleyes: [img]graemlins/slap.gif[/img]

i just HATE stabbing the throttle and having to wait almost half a second.

Half a second? I donno, I guess your system is malfunctioning, my throttle response is very crisp, no lag. The systems used in fighter jets are based on same principle of electronically actuated action, which is the SAME principle as used in drive-by-wire systems in cars. There can be absolutely no lag, due to the fact that the signal travels at the speed of light.

I notice a lag. Its hard to explin but doesn't feel as crisp as a normal TB.

Eithe Jeg's or Summit sale a plug in device that eliminates the lag of throttle response. It is a bout $90.00. Sorry I can't think of the item name right now but if you call them they could tell you what you need.

Heh, dont drive a new Volkswagen then. Especially an automatic. You can actually count about one second from the time you mash the throttle untill the car actually goes. If you stab it fast enough, it wont even register. :eek: My 2k Camaro's throttle responce is instant. No complaints here.

Found the item that eliminates the lag. Jeg's sales it. It is called a TPS throttle enhancer calibrator. The item # from jeg's is 182-102018 for the 3800 series II, cost is $88.99.
