Starting Problems

hey, i have a slight starting problem. every now and then the car will not start....just turn the key and it just clicks. a couple of clicks later the car will start. then today it tried to start and sounded really weird (kinda high pitched). oh, and the security light does not stay on when i try to start the car. does this sound like the the ignition cylinder or the starter/starter solinoid. any help would greatly appreciated

if it is a high pitched noise im guessing it would be the starter, mine did that for almost a yr before finally leaving me stranded at a friends house, autozone will look at it for free and tell ya
