  • igntiion cylinder help!!!

i got my car checked by the dealer today and htey told me that i needed to replace the ignition cylinder on my car. the Security light stays on everytime i drive it and someitmes it doesn't even start. so they told me that the total would be $460, 400 for the parts and 60 for the keys. I was pissed so me and my dad decided to do it ourselves. We bought new ignition cylinder fromt he dealer for 60 bucks and two new keys, 30 bucks each. All we have to do now is repalce my old ignition cylinder with this new one. Does any one have any idea on how to take apart the steering wheel and reaplce this?? any website out there, i;'ve tried projecttransam.com but no help there.
    thanks

sorry I had to post here cause in the electronics section noone answers.

besure to unplug you battery before you mess with it. As part of the safety feature on cars if the steering wheel disconnects from the car the bag goes off. I don't know this first hand but thats what I saw on the Crank and Chrome show when they had an LS1 in the shop. Try www.google.com too.

well maybe not take the whole thing off but I'm sure you have to remove something. once you find out be sure to let the rest of us know. I'm very interested. Thanks

its all done!!! we went over to our friend's house last night at 11 p.m. He took us over to Rosenthal thats where he works. He then told us it was easy, but a long process. It took him about two and half hours to get this done, but that was becuase he was a little tired he said. He had to take off the air bag, steering wheel, and all these little locks that are inside the wheel thats what took forever, you have to be real carefulw hen u get to the ignition cylinder, take off some ignition coil things really slow and hten take the screw that holds the ignition cylinder. He then took of the plug from underneath and then put on the new cylinder. jUst put everything back to place. This process seemed so hard and long cause of all the locks and screws. Well the car works great now. No more security light and it turns on everytime. He only charged us 60 bucks for it, so that saves me aobut 200 dollars, cause i paid $185 earlier, 65 dollars to checkout the car off the dealer cause i didn't want any work odne on it, $55 for the ignition cylinder, and $60 bucks for the keys. The dealer was charging me 500 dollars or so.
