turn signals problems---last resort.

My lights turn on, but don't blink. I've done a search and all I could come up with is "change the bulbs" I did that all the way around. I also changed the relay in the engine compartment. It still is occuring. I also read about a relay under the dash by the steering column, I've taken my dash apart twice and haven't found any type of relay under there. I just called the dealer and they were saying the bulb sockets are burnt out. Here's the kicker, they want 100/socket to change them out. so roughly 800 to change out all the bulb sockets. Does anyone know of any othe rthing I might be able to check before I get raped by the dealer.

Check your sockets to make sure the copper contacts are still copper. If the contacts are not copper anymore, try using a pencil eraser to clean the contacts. If the eraser doesn't clean them, glue a hole punched piece of sandpaper to that pencil eraser. If/when the contacts are clean, put some dielectric grease in the sockets and re-insert your bulbs.

If you still have problems, purchase an electronic flasher model EL12 and replace the stocker. The flasher is located behind the knee bolster panel under the steering wheel next to the A/C controls.

Keep in mind that the EL12 electronic flasher does not have a "bulb out" warning (won't flash) like the stock unit so check your signals regularly.

What does the EL12 flasher, and the stock unit look like under the knee bolster. I couldn't find anything that looked like a relay.

I had this same problem a few months ago, and traced the issue back to the "flasher" under the steering column. My symptoms included the DRLs working, but the turn signals not flashing, the light in the dash not even turning on, and a strange popping sound in the weeks before the turn signals gave out.

Under the steering column, behind the knee bolster, there is many wires and relays; on the left side of the opening, clipped to the metal support structure (out of eye sight, feel for it), there is a round metal cylinder. This is the flasher module for the emergency lights. Look at this one, get the number off of it (I think it is something like 552). This one can be purchased at a local auto parts store for like $4.

Pretty much opposite of the emergency flasher, on the right side of the bolster area, there is another flasher, this one a little larger (mine has two yellow rings around it), but with the same plug size. I think its number is something like 733, but I’m not sure, so you'll have to check. I was unable to find this at any parts store, so I had to go to the dealer. Around here they charge about $10 for a replacement.

You could feasibly use the same type as the emergency flashers #552. I tried it, but was not pleased with the timing of the turn signals. They seemed somewhat delayed from when I flipped the switch and they started blinking. Like said before, the 552 will not tell you that a bulb is out (I had a bulb out, too) so it's up to you as far as keeping an eye on it, but it's the cheap route.

Of note: My problems were for both turn signals, as this one flasher control right and left, so I don't know if this information will fix your problem dfedzina. But give it a shot, it might fix it, but otherwise it could be your bulb (front or rear).

My $.02: I would get the flasher from the dealer; $10 is not too much as these things will last a while (unless your are popping them a lot, then I don't know what to tell you, you may have a short somewhere!!); and for my convenience, I don't think that price is too high for never worrying about it again. But as said, you can probably make due with a different model.

Lemme bump this back to the top. I am having very similar problems. Right signal works fine. Left signal doesn't flash. Just stays on steady. See if I can get some more input.... [img]smile.gif[/img]

I am having a similar problem with my left turnsignal. inthe day the right side daytime driving light is on but the left is not but at night when the lights are on both sides light up the only constant is that my left turn signal will not work
