what type of gas do yall use in your 98 3.8 firebirds

  • #2
I use 87 and the manual says 87 is recommended. Using any more is a waste of your money UNLESS you're spraying or using forced induction. In those cases the increased pressure = better chance of detonation so if you're using those then go to premium 92/93.

Generally, 87 octane is just fine. However, if you have a high mileage engine with considerable carbon build up and choose to do nothing about it, then a higher octane fuel would be in order to control detonation or, more properly, pre-ignition. Also, if you have reprogrammed, either Jet or HPP3, it is very advisable to use 91+ octane fuel.
