I figured this is the best place to post this. Well to make a long story short my main set of keys are gone. So I need to rekey my car. I was wondering what all I needed to do, to make sure my old keys wont work. I'm going to wait for a few days to to see if the keys turn back up. Any advice if welcomed.
Not sure what years your car is, but I had to replace my ignition cylinder and keys after the VATS wire broke and my car wouldn't start.
Dealer charged me $289 to change the cylinder and $45 a piece for the keys.
Later found out I could have bypassed the problem for $1.49....

Mine is a 1995. I have a friend that will do it cheap. I just need to get the parts. Maybe I should explain more. I was at school today and one minute them were in my pocket then next they are gone. Not sure if I lost them or if some how someone stole them.
you have several options. but really you need to know the resistance of your original passkey ign key. if you knew this, stick a resistor in the signal wire for the passkey system.
lacking this, you may find it necessary to have the dealer pull the info from your pcm with the tech2 tool and sell you a key or two. you can get them cheaper than listed above. call several gm dealers to check. buick caddie and olds also uses the passkey system so don't forget to check those dealers. you probably wont have to replace lock cyl unless the 5+ref or the signal wire is broken. i think its like 250 milliohms extra resistance in the signal ckt and it won't work.
there are other ways of bypassing but you're still gonna have to get keys if you lost yours. i can probably talk you through the different ways to bypass passkey-II if you are proficient in automotive electronic repair.
