I have a 99 Camaro with a 3.8 and M5 transmission. I noticed that after long trips (approximately 45 minutes) that the A/C dies. Let me explain this more in detail.
When I turn the A/C on (max setting), I usually leave the fan set on the lowest setting unless I need a bit more cool air, in which I crank the fan switch up one notch. After about 45 minutes the airflow dies down until it is nothing. If I crank the fan switch up to high, the fan makes a very loud and low hum as if it is blowing, but nothing comes out of the A/C vents. I even checked the defroster vents and felt no air flow. If I turn the A/C switch to off and right back on, it's the same scenario... no airflow. However, when I turn the A/C off and leave it for about 5 or 10 minutes and then turn it back on to max, the air is just as cold and blows just as strong as it did without the problem, but it dies down again within 15 minutes or so. Any idea what could be causing this problem? Since it is so intermittent the dealer where I bought the car from won't look at it. I did notice though that when parked the car drips a lot of water. Could a clogged drain hose be causing this problem? Is there some sort of failsafe thing that if the drainage tray becomes clogged the air vents won't allow airflow? Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thank you.
