i did a search on this and came up with this... people shouldn't post on this site unless they at least have some kind of clue as to what they're talking about. now, i know for a fact that there i a broken wirre in my steering column. i know this because my car wouldn't start and the security light flashed. so i took apart the kickboard and traced the wire that comes frome the ignition, funny enough it is bundled in the same buldle as the only airbag wire going to the steering column. so naturally i unplugged it, car doesn't start, so i take my spare key and make contact with the two wires that came out of the plug, i put my other key in the ignition, push in the clutch and viola, it started. so now my question is, how can i bypas this system? what do you guys do when you have a remote start? i need my car back.

Bulldog, I don't know what you read that wasn't accurate. There are several causes for each problem, and I'm sorry that you couldn't find yourself an answer. Anywho, I'll try to help. You're certian that you have a broken wire? My ignition started acting up a few months back, and I was hoping it was just the key dieing on me. So I had the dealer cut me a new one, and it started right back up. So I thought that solved the problem, but nope, the next day, Security light kicked back on and the car wouldn't start. I went through this several times, and each time it got progressively worse. Finally, I got it checked out by a mechanic that my father knows, and found that there was a wire broken on my ignition switch. He said it's a very common problem with cars that use the PASS KeyII System. There are two white wires, encased in orange plastic, that run into the ignition switch. The wires are connected to the sensors that the key touches inside the switch. That is how the resistance is measured. One of the two white wires that come into the back of the ignition switch was almost broken completly in two, thus causing the resistance measurement to be off. That is what set off the security light, and is why it only happened ocasionally. Sometimes the wires would be making enough connection to measure the propper resistance. Anways, the wire finally snapped off completely, and I had the Mechanic replace the entire ignition switch. It's list price is $56.00. http://speed.supercars.net/avatars/17878.jpg
This is a picture of my old ignition switch, you can see where the wires run into the switch, and where it broke. That is what happend with mine. Maybe the wire you unplugged looked like the one in the picture, if so, it might be broke at the ignition switch, and might need replaced, or you might be able to fix. Either way, there ya go.~Chris
1999 Hugger Orange Camaro
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/273836

†…faith…hope

Also, here is supposed to be a way to disable it for remote start http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/alarm.htm. Hope it helps man, and good luck.~Chris
1999 Hugger Orange Camaro
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/273836

†…faith…hope

I did a search and it seems that whenever someone has their security light on, their car has trouble starting.
I on the otherhand have no problems starting the car, but the security light is always on, i tried the spare keys and everything, but its still on.
I dont want to spend much money on fixing it because it hasnt caused any problems other than a distraction to the eye. Any suggesstions?97\' A4 y87
SLP CAI, 80 series flowmaster

There should be a black and white wire under the steering column. And if you follow those wires, there should be a plug. Stick a resistor with same resistance as your resistor on your key into the plug make sure they are making connection with the metal piece.
And it should bypass the GM's reistor key security system.
If its hard to understand, I can go take a picture of my ghetto security hack for the remote starter.

Hmm, I have no experience with that. Are you trying to steal your own car? :D Maybe take it to a dealer, or just unplug it completely. Hopefully somebody else knows what to do. I have seen a few people on the boards who have the security light stay on while they drive. Maybe you can get somebody to help.
