  • Small oil leak....

Hey guys. I am pretty pissed right now. For the last few days I have monitoring my car because I was suspicious of an oil leak. It started recently. Nothing huge, but maybe 1-3 drops fall onto my driveway when my car sits overnight. I use mobil 1 tri-synthetic 10w-30. Do you think I should switch to conventional oil because I heard that synthetic oil can find the smallest cracks and leak out of them. Since the amount of oil coming out of my car is so small, I think this may be the problem. My car only has 30,000 miles on it. I will bring it to the dealer under warrenty and see what they say. Also, my car only leaks when cold which leads me to believe when the cracks or spaces in my engine contract from the cold, the oil squeezes its way out. When it warms up, the metal expands and the cracks and spaces are filled causing no leaks.

my rear diff was leaking pretty bad. i've got 40,000 on it now and changed everything to mobil 1, including tranny fluid, diff fluid, and my engine oil has been mobil 1 since 5,000 miles. when i took the diff cover off the gasket looked like a blind guy put it on.
