  • car wouldn't start for a little while....

So last night I park my car at a store. When I get back in 5 min later I start the car and it sputters and dies in 3 seconds. That's weird.

Try again, same thing. WTF!? Tried again about 2 or 3 more times and now it's dying in 1 second. More gas I give it the faster it turns off.

Call my buddy to pick me up. Meanwhile I'm under the hood looking for what could possibly be the problem. I have a brand new optima red top and a new alt. Nothing is disconnected or loose.

Buddy gets there 10 min later and.....now it starts no problem. Drive it a few miles and it's fine. Drive a few more miles later and it's still fine.

What could that have been? I just got oil changed, new plugs and wires 2 months ago, like i said new battery and alt. Any suggestions?

true change the fuel filter, check the pump, have you ever changed injectors or anything like that?

fuel filter is recent...as far as fuel pump and injectors, no. How do you know if they're bad? BTW car has 90k miles.

OK been almost a month and no problems with this....

Yesterday it did it again: low idle then dies in 3 seconds. This is after I've driven a short trip and parked and tried to restart the car 2 min later.

Tried it several times, gave it a few minutes no luck. Got it towed to my apt, having my mechanic look at it today, he thinks it's the fuel pump as well as some of you guys do.

Only he says I should get a pump from a 95 or something and that will work just fine, or else for my 97 I would have to buy a whole kit that's over $300.

              What do you guys think?
