  • Failed inspection (carbon build up?)

    OK guys
I went today to a garage to get an inspection thinking it would be easy to pass... they said i dont drive the car enough (98 with 26k) so i have a crapload of carbon build up and to go drive it an hour. I went back and forth on the highway 65 to 75 mph the whole way. Came back to scan again and they said it still isnt ready... I was told i had 3 codes (i guess i didnt run it long enough with the hp tuners) and they said if they get rid of the one code i will pass. I asked if it had something to do with my exhaust and they said no but i think its that damn 02 sim. LOL

Anyways, is there something that i can do to help clean out the carbon build up besides driving all over NJ? They want me to put more miles on the car and that makes sense to flush it out but, Is there something to add to my tank to help this? I have to bring the car back tues or wed so the garage will fix it (and i am leaving it all day)

Seafoam might do it. You can get a can of the stuff from Autozone.

you can also try can of top end cleaner. gm even has a verision of it. (seafoam as mentionedis one such prodct)
top end cleaners have been around for many years and there are many different brands. follow the instrucions and you will also want to change your oil when you are done. (it breaks carbon loose, etc.)

if you have hp tuners you should try scanning again. there are also some things you can do with hp tuners to block codes...such as with HP tuners you do not need an external o2 sim.

i am surprised that your fuel injected distributerless ignition vehicle is having such problems.

All I know is when I had my new muffler put on and had my cat removed, the first time I redlined it a bunch of black smoke came out which was all the carbon build up.
