First off, thanks a bunch for the advice with my cat. I got it fixed and everything works great. I was on I-4 today amd got into it with an Audi. Not many people on the road, so I figure what the heck and open up. The problem is that I was @ 110mph and this car was trying to get by me like I was nothing. I stayed ahead. I don't have the speed limiter modified in my car but I got up to 120..slowly. Is there anything I can do to my car to increase the top speed and length of time it takes to get there. I'd like to go at least 140mph in the car. Would SSRA(Ram Air) have helped me at all? It's an 02 camaro with a stock T-5. Any help would be great

higher theoretical top end... or actually up there.. the problem isnt the gearing to reach it its the actual wind resistance when you get over say 130 or so.. its like trying to drive through jello in a head wind...
my old 5.0's mustang with 2.73 gears top end in 5th gear overdrive at 6 K was 240.. but it would have never made it up that high.. top speed in those cars were around 145-150 it actually had a higher top end in 4th gear than 5th..
i read some where that at 6K with 3.73 gears you were doing 154 in these cars... you might ctually be able to pull to around 1501996 Dark Green V-6 auto. few mods.<br />previous rides:<br />1989 turbo 5 speed dodge caravan (18 PSI, 3\" exhuast, intercooled blah blah)<br />1989 Mustang GT (11.72 @118 many many mods, blown engine a.t.m. :-( )

Is there a possibility of customizing my transmission to give me a little of both. I talked to the guys at GM and they will sell me a T-56 tranny to fit my car. The downside is that they want $7,500 for it. Not including labor. I even made sure it would fit and they said it would. I know a lot of people have had issues with changing to a 6 speed. Just out of curiosity, how much power would it take to redline 5th... asuming the tranny doesn't die on the way there?\" Eat Rice With Pushrods \"<br /><br />My Car and What I Did <a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2127313/1\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2127313/1</a>

Here is a good post.

If you plan to use 6th gear on the street you are going to have to alter your gear ratio's if you lack the engine torque. I wouldn't go with less than 4.11's
You will be taking a step down in gearing when you swap to a T-56. The gearing is less of a performance set than what our T-5's have.
First through third gears: T-5 vs. T-56
3.75 vs. 2.66
2.19 vs. 1.78
1.41 vs. 1.30
The gearing change without correction of the final drive ratio would account for a LOSS in engine power multiplied to the wheels by 82 horsepower in first gear.
or
200(HP) * 3.75(1st) * 3.23(gears) would equal the same power to the ground as:
222(HP) * 2.66(1st) * 4.11(gears)
So if you added 4.11's and 22 more horsepower you'd only be as fast as stock. But your gas mileage would be a little better when you cruise the highway. You'd cruise 70 MPH about 400 RPM than you do now. From 2250 RPM to about 1875 RPM.2005 Cavalier LS Sport M5<br /> <a href=\"http://members.cardomain.com/firefighter8615\" target=\"_blank\">http://members.cardomain.com/firefighter8615</a>
