ok well..its been a while since i posted.but i was toying with the idea of boring out my motor, its in a 95 firebird and its a 3.4. does anyone know about how much it would be to do so? and how far i should go? thanx.

I'm not sure if you can. It's already a 2.8L block thats been bored and stroked. Not sure you can make it go any bigger.

Iam sure you can raise it to 3.5,Iam sure its been done before. But why bore out a 3.4 when you can get a lt1 instead and have more bang for the buck

The 3.4L V6 can safely be bored to .030" over stock...you might be able to pull out .040" over but it will be tough to get piston rings.

If you are going to have it bored out, you may want to look into a new cam and ported & polished heads.

I am looking into doing the same thing. One dude I talked to said the parts alone would be $3K. A friend told me that was a bit steep and that I should be able to get it all done for around $3k - $4k.

Make sure you find a engine builder who specializes in chevy motors so he knows what he is doing and will likely give you a better price.

Let me know what you find.

Any machine shop could to the work that you would need done to the engine block. Keep in mind that the 3.4L V6 is a bored and stroked 2.8L V6 engine so you can't really oversize it too much more.
