Using the tach to judge idle speed is not the best way to do it.

Even if it does idle one or two hundred RPM fast, it doesn't make any difference.

1000. Unless I'm at 80 mph. Ram air effect makes me idle at 1200 then.

My car tries to stay at 750, drops to 500 or lower and jumps up to 1000. Haven't tuned my car yet.

I idle at about 900-1000.
I think there is a difference between A4 and M5.
</font>
not by as much as youd think...only about 30-50rpms separate the two in v6's...in their v8 counterparts a4's command a 550rpm idle whereas the m6's command 800rpms. Stock v6's command ~730-770 depending on that persons operating temp...if your stock & your tach says more then that your tach is probably off...fwiw mine was off a full 200 rpms.

doesnt your car sit alot? isnt it wrecked and your to young to drive yet? cause when i let mine sit for a week or so it idles higher like 1000 or so for awhile after i finally start it up and takes a good while for it to go down.

800-900. Does a cam really lower your idle?

Mine idles around 900 when warm (3.4 M5) according to the tach.

How do you guys know your tach is inaccurate? How do I test mine?
