I just bought a new v6 firebird with a 5 speed in it(47,000 miles). I've knowticed that when I try to shift quickly from 1st to second gear the car likes to grind second gear when the clutch is pressed to the floor. Is this a common problem? Does anybody know how to fix it? Also when I am using my gears to slow down and I have it in second gear it likes to pop out of gear for some reason. Is there something wrong with 2nd gear on my car?
definitely 2nd gear synchros... you can look for a used tranny to put in or a rebuild.

I had the same exact problem with mine @ 32,000. It cost me about $400 to have the syncros redone. Someone was telling me about bent forks too, but Im not sure about the forks.

The only difference with mine is that when I shifted at higher RPMs it also grinded, even if I waited, it'd still grind.

It is not a major problem right now, if I hold it back while downshifting it stays in gear. Also when I can take the car to 5000 rpms and shift it a little slower it doesn't grind at all. It only grinds when I try to shift very quickly. All the other gears are okay, is this a repair that HAS to be done or can it be taken care of by taking it easy when shifting?
I am trying to avoid any major repairs until I can make some more money, I took a hit to the pockets putting 5000 cash down on the car.
