How exactly does everybody calculate their gas mileage. I usually just top off and reset my odometer and check how many miles i get per 16.5 gallons of gas.

when your tank is full, hit trip odometer...

    drive around.

next time you put gas in the car, you see how much gas the pump reads when you top it off.

lets say you made 285 miles, and you just pumped in 13.5 gallons.

    so 285/13.5=21.11111 mpg

thats as close as you will get... problems with this...

if your tire size is not factory, or you swapped your gears, your odometer won't read correctly.

How the hell did you get 407 miles out of it? I am lucky to get 300.
