Check out the forced induction section. A fair amount of people have built 3.8s and other people run low boost on the stock bottom end.
You can't really ask what the max amount of boost is because it depends on the specific setup with tuning and fuel. Go read up on forced induction and start hanging out in the FI section of this forum if you are actually interested in going turbo in the future.
