When I bought my car in December 99' it got about 350-400 miles per tank(400/15.5gal=25mpg). I drove rather conservative then ;) . And I once made it to Atlanta from Tampa on one tank of gas in June 200. But now it is more like 230-250 miles per tank, roughly 15mpg :( . That's more like V-8 mileage. I do drive very fast now, full throttle almost every gear of every stoplight, of every day. But I tried to drive "normal" last week to test out my theory. Well it didn't help one bit
. Still about 235 miles to a tank.
There's only one thing I can think of. Engine ware. When I had my new clutch installed 6 weeks ago, my engine oil was 2 quarts low. All the engine seals are good, no leaks. So the piston seals must be worn because the engine had 52,000 miles in Dec 99, and now it has 97,000m. This is the only thing I can think of. If anyone can think of another reason or cause, please let me know. If it is the pistons, can new rings be installed or does the cylinder bores need to be machined?
