How to learn more about our car for less than $20

For those of you who have been lucky enough to catch my attention (I know, I should post more, but . . . okay, I have no good excuse) you may or may not have noticed that I quite often quote from something known as the "Haynes Repair Manual".

TRUTH: I put my 1986 Camaro back together using a Haynes manual for the 3rd generation Camaro. I have nearly warn out my 4th gen book for as many times as it's gone to the parking lot with me in the middle of the night to 'double check' something. To be honest, my Dad, a Haynes manual and a lot of lucky time spent with a few awesome cars is how I learned to do what I do best - trouble shoot.

If any of you are interested, you can purchase a copy of, what I call, "the bible" of car repair at most Autozones, some Advanced stories, or order it off Amazon.com. 15-20 bucks or less.

And, even better, here's a link directly to Haynes!

And I can tell your not using it correctly if there are no oil stains on your book. ;)

The Haynes manual is a great tool, but I have become somewhat accustomed to the GM issued service manual. My brother has the 97 F-body version (previous owner bought it) 2 volumes: 1 for mechanical and body work, the other for electrical and computer stuff.

The Haynes manual is more user friendly and explanatory, but the shop manual has SO MUCH STUFF!!! But you have to get aquianted on reading it.

I have the 93-02 shop manuals on CD. It is about as exciting as reading old DOS manuals. But every part on our cars is there.

hehe... I went through a 3rd gen haynes manual, and my 4th gen one is looking raddy...


I have a haynes and a Chiltons for 4th gens, only have a Chiltons left for my 3rd gen. Makes a world of difference, I learned pretty much most of my automototive knowledge form those manuals.

The chiltons manual has alot more info i prefer that to a haynes manual, just my opinion.

My 97 bird
My bro's 94 jeep
I still gotta get one for the 91 sable

Actually, I've found both chiltons and haynes to be good, in fact owning one of each is optimal because each one seems to have missing bits that the other covers.
