How to tell if ECM has Theft Deterrent System

I just bought a 1997 Firebird 3.8 engine with computer for a project. I'd like to find out if I will need the BCM to make it run. It seems the issue boils down to whether or not the car was equipped with a Theft Deterrent System. Here are the numbers on my engine computer: SERV. NO. 16227797 CABZ

Turn the key to on, then turn it back the other way past lock. If it beeps once, you don't have VATS, if it beeps twice, you do.

This engine is not in a car right now. It is going into a Volvo and I am trying to find out if I'll need the BCM to make it run. I was hoping there was a way to tell if it had theft deterrence just by the code on the engine computer.
