• Brake light on, and now it brakes diff.

Hey guys , im a lil bit concerned. My brakes started going bad, which i knew i had to get new ones, But now one day my brake light came on along with its function of braking is now diff. And now when i brake i have to use about 80% of my brake pedal in order for it to actually slow down my car. when i go driving and get out my brakes are really hot. And with that my eBrake works alot better, its like they two swapped or something.. i just need some help.. oh and i put brake fuild in and nothing happened :(

When you say you need new brakes, did u just mean pads or...? The light won't come on when you need pads or rotors. It's sounds like you have air in your brake lines, or something more serious like a booster or master cylinder is on it's last days.

If I recall correctly, the "brake" light means one of three things:
-your e-brake is on
-your brake fluid is low
-you have a SERIOUS braking system failure, and only half of the brake system is working now.

It sounds like you're in category three. I wouldn't fool around with this if I were you. Get it taken care of. Replacing the wear parts of the braking system is not difficult on our cars-- just have someone around who has done a brake job before. Unfortunately, it sounds like your problem may be more serious than that...

Maybe air in the lines, but like mentioned above; Don't play around with this! If your brakes give-out, your F'd at any speed!

Thnks guys for your help, i appreciate it alot. For some reason i went away yesterday. i cleaned my motor(wipped off dirt), added coolent, a lil bit of oil, added gas treatment, and put windsheild wiper fluid.... then i accidentally drove for about 20 sec with my eBrake up, realized it (while driving), then put it down, and the light was gone and my braking was back to normal ...weird, but thanks again!
