ok, so i had a bad idler pully. I get it in my head that it is reverse thread and when i buy the pulley i ask the guy and he says yeah they are both reverse thread.

Well i get home and get a long wrench and the liquid wrench and long story short i partially stripped out the female threaded part. Not the bolt, but the part it screws in to will thread in partially hand tight, but not any more than that.

Question is, can i just replace the small piece the pully bolts to or do i need to get a whole new ac pully part as well.

    Thanks for any help everyone.

Hey Red, I'm thinking all of our 3.8's are basically identical so Im going to take a shot recommending you buy the entire pulley assembly part thats bolted into, this way you have a brand new part and 2 pieces from it to disassemble with. Otherwise a trip to the local pick n' pull will probably help you too. I noticed that reverse thread scheme myself and almost did the same thing as you did while replacing my serpentine belt.

its not the tensioner assembly that you push down to take off the belt. It is the other pulley on the lower left under coolant hoses and in front of ac.

If that is an assembly, do i just ask car part stores or salvage yards for an idler pully assembly. Ifso it looks fairly easy to remove/instal, anyone know if this is the case.
