Got a 97 Camaro 3.8 with a/c. Anyone got part numbers of the gm belt or some other one ? I searched but saw mixed results with the gatorback. How is the good old ac delco belt ? Thanx. Oh and also is this a hard process ?

    Quoted from autozone.com:

    KELLY_SPRINGFIELD 945K6 $18.99

    GATORBACK 4060945 $24.99

I have the standard belt (945k6) installed on my 96 3.8 for over three years now, and it's still in excellent shape.
If I was to rate the belt installation on a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the easiest and 10 being the hardest) I'd say this project would be a 1. All you will need is a 1/2" ratchet-drive to put on the tensioner then slowly turn to loosen the belt, and a diagram of the belt routing which should be on a sticker under the hood.
Thats it, nothing else to it! It takes me about a minute or two to replace my belt.

Last summer I had underdrive pulleys installed on my car and had to replace the belt with a different one of course and now less than a year later the belt has 4 out of the 6 ribs almost completely worn away while the other 2 are almost perfect. It has to be from the new pulleys somehow but I thought it was weird for it to wear that way. They were ASP pulleys. Anyone else see anything like this before?

belts will be alittle bit louder when they are new until they break in after a few hundred miles

That's what I assumed too but I just thought it was weird that the whole belt didn't wear out opposed to only those 4 ribs. That's what I get for bringing the car to a garage to install them I guess

Either it was a wrong size too tight or wasn't set in the grooves on one of the pulleys and shreded off. If stock and no A/C deletes I bet it wasn't set in the grooves right or lined up.
