  • LT1 to V6 gage cluster swap ideas

I have a LT1(pre 97) 150mph gage cluster that I'm going to swap into my car tomorrow.
Now I've heard all kinds of things to fix the tach problem: getting an $80 dakota digital device to fix it, swapping something from the V6 gage electronic board to the V8 board...
But what if I swap the whole board from the V6 gage cluster to the V8 cluster(it's easy to remove, I've done it on the V8 one plenty of times). The only possible side effect from this would be that then the speedo might be off unless what's different from the V6 to the V8 speedo is the actual windings and needle/gage face part of the gage and that each one expects the same signal(from the board on the cluster) but only reacts differently to it to match up to the right numbers.

I tried that with my 98 gauges clusters....didn't work. The lights and stuff don't match.
